Quick Notes:

Peaty, briney, a little spicy and sweet ending in a long, warming and dry finish.

The Verdict:

A nice change of pace for Islay loving Scotch drinkers looking to spice things up.

Port Charlotte Scottish Barley

Bruichladdich’s heavily peated Port Charlotte line explores what terroir looks like through peat colored glasses.

Quick Notes:

Peat forward, with earthy and bright fruits hiding behind a curtain of smoke.

The Verdict:

Even if it’s a “value buy” for heavily peated whiskey lovers, it’s a great whiskey on its own merit.

Ardbeg 10 Year

An excellent introduction to peated Islay whiskey, the Ardbeg 10 Year hits all the right notes.

Quick Notes:

Lightly colored with sea smells, dried fruits and smoke on the nose and persisting throughout the tasting.

The Verdict:

The gateway Islay whiskey, with great balance of peat, fruit and smoke.
